NeedTheseApps provides free calculators and explanations that help you explore a question and see what your own numbers lead to.
Everything on this site is for general information and education. It is not financial, investment, tax, legal or accounting advice. NeedTheseApps is not a bank, an investment firm, a broker, a financial adviser, a tax adviser, a law firm, or a provider of any financial product.
Do not use a result from this site as the only basis for a decision that matters. When a choice could affect you materially, check it with a qualified professional who can look at your whole situation.
Results are estimates, not promises
Our calculators apply a programmed formula to the numbers you enter and the assumptions shown in the tool. The same inputs always produce the same result.
That is not the same as knowing what will happen. A projection is a scenario, not a promise. Real outcomes can differ, sometimes by a lot.
A result can be affected by:
- inputs that are wrong, incomplete, or not quite what you meant
- the assumptions used for growth, inflation, tax or timing
- market movements, and the order in which good and bad years arrive
- changes to laws, tax rates, thresholds or official guidance
- differences between countries, products and personal circumstances
- rounding, timing conventions and other simplifications the tool makes
- anything the calculator does not include at all
Each calculator states the assumptions and limits that apply to it. Those belong to the result and should be read with it, not treated as small print.
Your circumstances are not part of the calculation
A result is only as good as what went into it, and how closely the assumptions match the situation you are exploring.
NeedTheseApps does not know your financial position, your goals, your other investments, your debts, your income, your expenses, your tax position or your legal obligations. A result that suits one person can be wrong for another.
Unless a tool says otherwise, its result does not tell you whether you qualify for anything, whether a plan is safe, or what you should do.
Growth, inflation and the future
Future returns, interest rates, inflation and prices are unknown. A calculator may apply the same rate every year so the arithmetic stays understandable, even though real values rise and fall.
The order in which gains and losses happen can change an outcome substantially, especially when money is being withdrawn. A model that assumes a steady return does not show that effect unless it says it does.
Past performance, long-run averages and widely used planning rules do not guarantee anything.
Tax and country figures
Tax depends on the law that applies, the type of asset, the country, and your own circumstances.
Choosing a country fills in a currency and suggests a tax rate so a scenario is quicker to set up. A suggested rate is an assumption for modelling. It is not a calculation of what you owe.
Rates, thresholds, exemptions and the way they are applied can change, and a calculator simplifies rules that are more complicated in practice. Before relying on any tax figure, check a current official source or ask a qualified tax professional.
How the tools are checked, and what checking cannot do
We test the calculation against expected results, work through common scenarios, and deliberately try the cases where a calculator is most likely to mislead. We try to state the assumptions plainly.
Testing can show that the code follows the intended formula for the cases checked. It cannot show that the assumptions or the future will match. Those are two different claims and only the first one is something we can verify.
Even so, this site may contain errors, omissions, out-of-date information or faults. We do not guarantee that any result or explanation is complete, current, error free, or right for a particular purpose. Where the accuracy or the age of a figure matters to your decision, check it yourself.
Guides, examples and rules of thumb
Guides, FAQs, worked examples and the explanations beside a result exist to make an idea easier to grasp. Examples are illustrations, and they do not cover every situation.
General statements and commonly quoted figures are not recommendations for you. A worked example, or a value a tool suggests, does not mean the same choice fits your case.
Files you download, print or send on
A PDF, a spreadsheet, an email or a message reflects the inputs, assumptions and figures that existed when it was made.
Those files do not update themselves. A spreadsheet you keep will not receive later changes to formulas, tax rates, assumptions or this page.
If a spreadsheet is edited, its results are no longer the results NeedTheseApps tested or published, even though the file still carries our name. Before acting on an older file, or one somebody sent you, open the calculator on this site and check the current figures and assumptions.
No professional relationship
Using this site, entering numbers, downloading a file or writing to us does not create an adviser relationship, a client relationship, or any professional duty.
We do not monitor your situation, recommend products, carry out transactions, or take responsibility for decisions made using this site.
Links to other sites
This site may link to other websites, sources or services run by other people. We do not control their content, their availability, their security or their accuracy.
A link is not a recommendation and not a guarantee. Read the other party’s own terms and policies before relying on them.
Advertising and commercial relationships
This site does not carry advertising today. It is expected to in future, because advertising is what is intended to keep the tools free.
Advertising is separate from the calculations. It does not change a formula, a result, or an explanation. Where advertising appears, it is kept apart from a tool’s inputs, results and explanations so it is not mistaken for part of the answer.
There are no affiliate links on this site today. If any are added, they will be marked clearly, and a commercial arrangement will never change what a calculator works out.
Changes and availability
We may correct, update, change, suspend or remove anything on this site when it needs it. We do not guarantee that the site, or any particular tool or download, will always be available.
What is on this site now may differ from a version you downloaded, printed or saved earlier.
Responsibility and liability
You are responsible for reviewing the inputs, assumptions and limits that apply to your use of a tool, and for deciding whether you need professional advice.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Eyal Doron is not liable for any loss, damage, cost or claim arising from your use of this site, its results, its downloads, its unavailability, or content belonging to other people.
Nothing here removes a responsibility that cannot lawfully be removed. The effect of limits like these differs between countries, and where local law gives you a right that cannot be waived, that right still applies.
Found something wrong?
If a calculation, a figure or an explanation looks wrong, please tell us. It helps to include the calculator, the numbers you used, what you expected, and what you saw.
