The short version

The numbers you type into a calculator on this site are worked out inside your own browser and are never sent to us. We do not have them, we cannot see them, and there is nothing for us to store, sell or lose. The one exception is when you choose to share a result yourself, and that is explained below.

We use Google Analytics to count visits and learn which pages are useful, but only if you click Accept in the cookie window. If you click Deny, or do not answer, nothing is measured. There is no advertising on this site, and nothing that follows you to other websites. There is no account to create and no sign-up of any kind.

Who runs this site

This site is run by Eyal Doron, as a private individual rather than a company. If you have a question about anything on this page, or you think something here does not match what the site actually does, write to hello@needtheseapps.com. We would genuinely like to know.

Your calculator entries

When you enter your savings, a monthly amount, a return rate or a tax rate, those numbers are used by code running inside your browser. They are not sent to us, not sent to Google, not stored in a cookie, and not written into the address of the page.

Close the tab and they are gone. Refresh the page and you start again. There is no account, no saved history, and nothing to delete, because there was never anything kept.

We designed it this way on purpose. We have no use for your financial figures, and the safest thing to do with information you do not need is never to receive it.

When you choose to share a result

Every calculator has buttons that let you send your result somewhere. What happens next depends on which one you press, and the difference is worth knowing.

• WhatsApp. This opens WhatsApp with a message already written for you, and your figures are part of the web address that opens it. That means they reach WhatsApp’s servers as soon as the button is pressed, before you send anything. This is how sharing to WhatsApp works everywhere on the web, not something specific to this site. If you would rather your figures did not go to WhatsApp, use a different button.
• Email. This opens your own email program with the message ready. Nothing is sent to us or to anyone else until you press send yourself.
• Download as PDF. The file is built inside your browser and saved to your device. Nothing is uploaded.
• Download the Excel version. This is one ready-made file, the same for everyone. It contains no information about you.

In every case the choice is yours, and nothing happens until you make it.

Measuring visits with Google Analytics

When you first visit, a window asks whether we may measure your visit. Nothing is measured until you click Accept. If you click Deny, or ignore the window, the Google Analytics code is not loaded and nothing about your visit reaches Google.

If you accept, Google Analytics tells us things like how many people visited, which pages they opened, roughly which country they came from, what kind of device they used, and how they found the site. We use it to learn which calculators and explanations are useful. It never receives the numbers you type into a calculator.

Google processes this information on our behalf and under its own privacy policy. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time on the Cookie Policy page, and it is as easy to withdraw as it was to agree.

What is collected when you simply visit

Separately from Google Analytics and from anything you type into a calculator, our hosting provider records ordinary technical information as part of running any website. This typically includes your IP address, the type of browser and device you used, which pages were requested and when, and whether anything went wrong.

This happens on essentially every website on the internet. It is used to keep the site running, to keep it secure, and to diagnose faults. It is not used to build a profile of you, it is not combined with anything you typed into a calculator, and it is not shared with advertisers, because there are none.

When you answer a feedback question

Some pages ask a short question, such as whether a calculator was useful. Answering is optional. If you answer, your answer is recorded in our Google Analytics statistics, described above.

Cookies and what is stored on your device

The full list of what this site keeps on your device, and what it does not, is on the Cookie Policy page. It is kept in one place so there is only ever one answer.

The short form: a few small items the site needs to work and to remember your cookie choice, Google Analytics only if you accept, nothing for advertising, and blocking everything will not stop the calculators working.

When you write to us

If you send an email to the address on this page, we have your email address and whatever you chose to put in the message. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else. We do not add you to a mailing list, because there is no mailing list.

There is no contact form anywhere on this site, so there is no database of enquiries. Your message lives in an ordinary email inbox, like any other email you send to anyone.

Other sites we link to

Some pages link to other websites, for example to a government page or to an explanation we thought was worth reading. Once you follow a link, you are on somebody else’s website and their rules apply, not ours. We have no control over what they collect.

Children

This site is not aimed at children and we do not knowingly collect any information about them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you have rights over information about you. These can include the right to ask what is held, to have it corrected or deleted, to withdraw consent you gave, to object to how it is used, and to complain to your national privacy regulator.

In practice there is very little for us to act on, because we hold almost nothing: no account, no calculator history, no profile. To change your Google Analytics choice, use the button on the Cookie Policy page. For anything else, write to hello@needtheseapps.com and we will tell you honestly what exists and act on it.

Where information is handled

The site is hosted on servers operated by our hosting provider, and Google Analytics runs on Google’s servers. Either may be located outside your own country. This is normal for any website. Your calculator entries never travel anywhere.

How long anything is kept

Your calculator entries are not kept at all, anywhere, for any length of time. The ordinary server records are kept for as long as our hosting provider keeps them as part of running the service. Google Analytics data is kept according to the settings of our account and Google’s own policy. How long each item on your device lasts is listed on the Cookie Policy page.

Security

We take sensible measures to keep the site safe. We should also be straightforward with you: no website can promise perfect security, and anyone who tells you otherwise is overselling.

What we can say is more useful than a promise. The most sensitive information involved here, your savings, your income and your plans, is never sent to us in the first place, so there is no store of it to be broken into.

Changes to this policy

If what this site does changes, this page changes with it, and the date at the top tells you when it was last reviewed.
